Nursery Photos

Well, we finished the nursery last night at midnight!! We are very pleased with the final product.. Now, we are just waiting for Baby to arrive :)

Here are some pictures of the progress:

The room is all empty and ready to start painting (But, we forgot to take down the curtains)....

A (really bad) picture of me painting the walls.... you can't really see the green here, but the yellow that it "was" is a little easier to see:
This is the disaster that was the spare room during painting/renovating...Poor child, doesn't have anything at all! hehe... Colour is up!!!Other angle.... the color is a cross between how bright it looks in the first picture, and how dull it looks in this picture.... the camera wouldn't get the perfect colour... and the inside of the closet is white, not purple!Bright yellow closet door is in! (it's not quite this bright in person) Crib and changetable are assembled... we are just trying different setups these next few pictures.
And it's getting there... coming together!!
Standing under the window... looking at the bright closet door!
Dexter leaving... after checking it all out he realized that it really wasn't that interesting... This isn't the set-up we ended up going with...
One of the shadow boxes that I made...

And another....

Here are all 3 of them... obviously two of them weren't framed yet..

AND IT'S FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is only missing a mobile for the crib, and I have to hang my diaper stacker... but here are the pictures as I walk into the room...
From the hallway...And turning (picture says "And they lived happily ever after") Thanks Paula!! (wedding present that turned into nursery hanging) ABC, 123 Wooden lettters that I painted for the room....
Empty corner for the glider/rocker..... last piece to go in (arriving August 7th)Change Table/Dresser combo... Wall hangings/teddy bears (high so Dexter can't eat them) and shelf...
Standing by the change table... looking at bookcase and crib/picture
Note the colourful hangings by the closet door... I bought these in China in 2005... for my future child's nursery... :)

Standing in the empty corner where the rocker will be...

And last, but not least, my bedding on the bed!!

Our Vacation...

Well, this is the fourth time I have tried to post an update and it keeps getting deleted, by my internet failing or by my clicking the wrong button... needless to say - I am getting a little annoyed!

Here goes... initially this was a really long update, I will do my best to ensure it has all of the same info as the previous three that I typed, but I can't guarantee that I will spend as much time typing it! haha

Well, we just got back from our Cape Breton Vacation! We left on July 10th after my doctors appointment, and returned yesterday, on the 20th! One would think that with that much time, we would have time to relax and just enjoy being "home"... HA - not us! We did enjoy being home, but as usual, we were busy and running around like crazy people the entire time!

OK, so for part of our vacation we had an excuse. We arrived on a Thursday and my shower was on Sunday... so Thursday to Sunday was spent preparing numerous things. My mom and Martha did an awesome job planning the shower.. it was just perfect! We had about 60 people attend, and it was so much fun! Everyone was so generous... I can't even begin to explain the amount of gifts that we recieved... it is just out of this world. Let me just say that before the shower.. I had pretty much just a couple of outfits.... that I had bought myself... and the bedding, and the shopping that I had wrote about earlier in May... Now, after the shower, I literally only NEED a dresser/change table and a rocking chair.. well, and a couple of little things.. but that is mostly it. I was just overwhelemed! For the first time in my life, I dind't know what to SAY when I was thanking everyone.. it was just too much! Also, the two items that we now need (rocking chair/change table) - we received enough money to buy them! It was just out of this world.

I was, of course, busy being the "pregnant lady" at the shower! HAHA so I didn't really have time to take a lot of pictures.. but I do have some to share...

So, after our fantastically wonderful baby shower, we decided that we needed to buy another car to get all the baby stuff home in! HAH.. Well, not really, but we did need another car - so we thought- why not look at some private sales here in Cape Breton - Sure enough, we found "the car". We wanted a car with a hatch, or a small SUV (small = not a pig on gas).. and 4 wheel drive. Well, we found someone selling a 2001 Subaru Forrester... PERFECT! We thought - now.. what is wrong with it? Well, turns out - nothing! We went to see it, and it matched what we were loking for to a tee! So we got it all checked out, talked to a few people who knew the car, and bought a car!! So, now we don't have to worry about the second car - we wanted to have another one when the baby was born, because otherwise life would just be too confusing! haha..
As it turns out - we DID need two cars to drive home to fit all our baby stuff in - that gives you a picture of what it was that we received!!
I don't have a picture of the car, but I will google! Here is what it looks like except ours doens't have the grey on the bottom: it's All black:

so after those crazy 7 (out of 10) days home, we headed over to Glace Bay for Amy and Jeff's wedding. Amy is BJ's cousin - and the wedding was beautiful. Their two little girls were their flower girls, and in spite of the dark clouds and rain in the morning - the day was beautiful (and the rain cleared up!). Here are a few pictures from Amy and Jeff's big day:

So, this update was long, just like the others! This time, I am posting, and then editing to add pictures because I am NOT loosing it again!

Baby O'Brien is moving around like crazy... it is so neat to see my belly moving around to form all different shapes! I can even see parts of him/her "sticking out" - but I still can't tell a hand from a foot from a head from a bum! LOL... Oh, and did I mention that the baby rarely kicks now - it must be running out of room.... but somehow it manages to curl up in the perfect position to kick my ribs every night! HAHA... But I wouldn't trade it for the world!! I can't believe I only have 10 weeks left... It makes me sooo excited to meet him/her, but so sad at the same time... I am so enjoying this little one inside of me! :)

Labor and Delivery

Well.. last night we went to our first of two labor and delivery classes at the IWK. I was unsure what to expect. As some of you know, I have been very "on the fence" about these prenatal classes that I was taking - finding that they had some useful information, and then some "one sided" information. I enjoyed the class on breastfeeding, but that was pretty much it! haha.

Anyway, this L & D class was AWESOME! I feel so much better about delivering at the IWK now that I went to the class. I was pleased to hear the many "coping" things that they had in place - such as a birthing ball and a birthing tub. Although you don't actually give birth in the tub (and obviously not on a ball) - It is really nice to have some options. They also talked about how they encouarge you to walk around as much as you can, get out of bed, and deliver in a position other than laying down if that's what makes you comfortable. I seriously thought that delivering in a hospital stopped me from doing a lot of this. I am thinking now that I will be able to deal with this pain a whole lot longer if I have these "distractions". She said if I want music, bring music, if I want to be in the dark, they will turn the lights off!

Mind you, most of these things I don't think interest me, but it's still nice to feel like I have the control over my birthing experience and not my doctors. They also gave me a "birth plan" that I will fill out and put my requests such as after the baby is born, I want him/her skin to skin with me, BJ wants to cut the cord, who I will allow in the room and who I won't. - Of course, if there is a medical reason for any of these things to NOT happen, then they won't.. but still nice that the choice is on me.

I am thinking that now I will be able to endure the pain much longer. I asked about an epidural - thinking (and maybe I'm the only one who thought this?) that with an epidural - I wouldn't be able to walk around because my legs would eventually get wobbily, and that I would be "attached" to it, so I would have to stay in bed. Well they said that the hospital gives walking epidurals, so you can absolutely walk with it - that being said - every patient reacts differently to drugs, so I could be someone who DOES completely freeze up.. (which, honestly, doesn't sound that bad either! HAHA).

So, I am continuing with my "birth plan of not having a plan" - I am going to tolerate the pain as long as I can, and if I end up having to get pain meds, I am certainly not going to feel bad about myself. Same with breastfeeding - I want it to work, I will do everything in my power to make it work - if baby decides he/she doesn't want to work with me, then that's whats going to happen I guess. The nurses made me feel really good about this.

Anyway, so I feel better about everything now!! I can't beleive September is only 2 months away!

Oh and I should add - the movie we watched, scared the s### outta BJ! lol.. you should have seen his face.
